The M.Hulot studio is where ideas are developed and finessed on our quest for the perfect accessories. We focus on a soft-edged kind of minimalism, mixing earthy natural tones back to brights; after 5 years we have settled on our signature colours of navy and vibrant yellow.
A collection or style is started loosely, getting lost in inspiration: from the clean lines of Modernist architecture, the magical, playful work of Louise Bourgeois and Pablo Picasso to the dress of Yemeni Fisherman. Shapes often come from existing styles- military rucksacks and vintage camera bags to name a few, and are explored via fabric mock ups, pencil sketches and cardboard machetes. One of the main starting points for a collection is the leather, and how we can exploit particular characteristics.
M.Hulot is based at a small studio space, amongst fellow creatives at The Hornsey Town Hall in Crouch End, now a thriving Arts Centre. Designed in the 1930s the building has just the right mix of Modernism and Deco to make us feel right at home.
